Iris L. Bennett Dawley Johnson, age 82, of Erie, died on Monday December 4, 2017. She was born in Erie on August December 2, 1935, the daughter of the late LaVern and Katherine (Burns) Bennett.
She was a 1953 graduate of Millcreek High School and worked as a car hop waitress at Priscilla’s Restaurant, and also at Presque Isle Plastics for 15 years and at Spectrum Control as a heavy machine operator.She was a former Girl Scout, an avid reader and enjoyed playing bocci. Iris, at times, worked two or three jobs to support and raise her four children on her own.
In addition to her parents, Iris was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Dawley in 2000; and by her husband, Louis James “Jim” Johnson in 1996.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Dawley Brown; two sons Terry Dawley and his wife Renae of Wattsburg, and Shawn Dawley and his wife Lucinda of Summit Township; step children, Deborah and Mark Yaple, of NY, Colleen and Kevin Osborne, of Waterford, Josef and Pamela Johnson, of Colorado, James and Tracey Johnson, of ND, Denise and Bryan Tousey, of Erie; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren. Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Funeral Home, 602 West 10th Street. Private burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
