Irene Anna (Guzman) Bekeny, age 94, of Millcreek, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge.
Irene was born in Budapest, Hungary, on March 16, 1922, daughter of the late R. Marcel and Anna Gorjup Guzman.
Irene graduated from Sacre Coeur Sophianum high school in Budapest, Hungary. She subsequently received a degree from Radnai Business College in Budapest, Hungary.
She and her family emigrated to the United States in 1949. She worked for the Sisters of Saint Joseph at the Villa Maria Convent and the payroll department of Saint Vincent Hospital. Irene worked for more than 25 years as the secretary to the traffic manager at Union Iron Works which later became Riley Stoker Corporation.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen R. Bekeny.
Irene is survived by her son, Frank S. Bekeny and his wife Judy. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Erika (and her husband Alexander and son Matthew), Alicia (and her husband Douglas), and Jenna.
Friends are invited to call on Friday, November 4, 2016 from 5-7 PM at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, 728 West 9th Street and are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 10:30 AM in St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 2801 West 6th Street. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
