Iona Runiewicz

Iona M. Runiewicz, age 88, of Erie, died on Saturday April 16, 2016 at Manor Care. She was born in Erie on January 26, 1928, a daughter of the late Matthew and Mildred Fuches Blackford.

Iona graduated from East High School. She was employed at Marx Toys for many years and then she retired from the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home. She was a hard worker and a caregiver. She loved her grandchildren with all her heart. She enjoyed her Friday night bowling league for many years, with her sister Charlotte and her dear sister in law Annie Boback.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Casmir Runiewicz; and her siblings: Charlotte Hilbert, Robert Blackford, Catherine Hawkins, Jean Nicholson, and Sharon Oswalt.

Iona is survived by her three children: Mary Jo Hodas, Gary (Audrey) and Steve Runiewicz, all of Erie; grandchildren; Jessica, Joel, Jordan, Jace Hodas, Adam and Ian Runiewicz and four great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Thursday April 21st at 11am at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Funeral Home 602 West 10th Street Erie, Pa 16502. Memorials may be made to the Dr. Gertrude Barber Foundation, 100 Barber Place, Erie, PA 16507.
