Howynn Heidelberg

February 20, 1955 — December 5, 2020

Howynn V. Heidelberg, 65, of Erie, PA passed away early Saturday morning, December 5, 2020, in her sister’s home surrounded by family. To be with the Lord. For the last three months, Howynn had been suffering from pancreatic cancer.

Howynn was born February 20, 1955, in Erie, PA to the late Howard and Mary Jane Roy. She was the oldest of three children. Howynn graduated from Mercyhurst Prep in 1973. She received her associate’s degree in Early Child Education from Villa Maria College in 1987 and later received her bachelor’s from Edinboro University in 2008. Howynn began her career working as a teaching in 1980 at Har-lin Daycare Center. In 1990 she took over as director when her mother retired and was active as director until the center closed in 2007.  She then took over as director of the Martin Luther King Daycare, she was employed from 2008-2014.

While Howynn was working at Har-lin Daycare Center, she was involved with the PTA/PTO and Title 1 chapter program at her children’s school (McKinley Elementary). She was dedicated and cared for children.

On March 30, 1985, Howynn married Clarence Heidelburg, her husband for over 35 years.  Clarence said, “God blessed me with a good woman.  She was an amazing wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend.”

Howynn was a life-long member of St. James A.M.E. Church. And she was part of the St. James Singers, trustee and was part of the book club. Howynn loved being around family, especially during the holidays.  She enjoyed playing cards with friends, listening to music, reading books and she loved long rides around the beach.

Howynn was preceded in death by her loving parents, Howard and Mary Jane Roy and her granddaughter, Mia.  Survived by her loving husband Clarence; children, Patricia, Samantha and Ethan; grandchildren, Julian, Treyvon, Ja’Zelle, Charlotte and Aiden; her brother, Shawn Roy, Sr., sister, Wendy (Steve) Boyd; niece/godchild, Allison (Stephen) Bell; nephews, Jonathan and Shawn Roy, Jr., Dorian Boyd; great-niece, Savannah Bell, Howynn is also survived by many other family and friends and three godchildren. 

Friends may call at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Downtown, 602 West 10th Street, Erie, on Thursday, December 17, 2020 from 11 am until the time of service there at 1 pm.  Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
