Howard G. Freeman age 95, of Erie, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021 at Fairview Manor.
He was born in Albion, PA on July 14, 1925, the son of Con and Beryl Lindsey Freeman.
After graduation from Albion High School, he served in the United States Navy on LST 704 in the Pacific; in the Invasion Landing of Leyte, Luzon and Okinawa. He also served two trips to Japan after World War II.
He attended Edinboro S.T.C. but transferred to California S.T.C. graduating in 1950. He then went to Penn State University and earned his Master’s Degree.
He began teaching General Science and Wood Shop at Roosevelt Jr. High School in Erie, moved to Conneaut, OH and Conneaut Jr. High School then back to PA to teach Mechanical Drawing and Shop (Girls Shop too), at McDowell High School from 1955 to 1981. It “made the day” when he would run into and visit with an ex-student.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, various teacher organizations, US LST Association, Perry Keystone Lodge 392, VFW Post 740, Masonic Acacia Club, Girard American Legion and assistant Scout Master Troop 119.
Howard enjoyed doing things with his family, “Pizza/Wings” a weekly event, camping, hunting and fishing and woodworking.
At one time he was “King Lion” of the Millcreek Lions Club; his favorite project being the Prom-To-Dawn.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Eileen Freeman; a daughter, Gail Stewart and a son, Thomas Freeman.
He is survived by three sons, Bob and his wife Dawn of Virginia Beach, VA, James Freeman and his wife Theresa of Erie and William Freeman and his wife Lori of Cambridge Springs; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; a niece and a nephew.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff of the 7th floor at UPMC Hamot.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and are invited to services there on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Daryl Grimes officiating.
