Hollis Wasser

Hollis “Holly” E. Wasser, age 88, of East Springfield, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday July 15, 2015 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West following a brief illness.

He was born in Fredonia, PA, on May 28, 1927, a son of the late Harold and Velma Gamble Wasser.

Holly grew up in Fredonia, PA and worked as a machinist for American Sterilizer for over 20 years until his retirement.

Holly was his grandchildren’s biggest fan; never missing a game or event when able to attend. He loved the Pirates, Steelers and college basketball, his bowling team, wood working and country music. He was a member of St. Jude Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers: Charles, Lee and Merle; and a sister, Marlene Stafford.

Holly is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Laase Wasser; his children: Steve and his wife Michelle of East Springfield, PA, Barb Rettig and her husband Bill of Centerville, OH, and Dan of Erie; a brother, Paul Wasser of VA; ten grandchildren: Heather, Matthew, Josh, Kevin, Amber, and Codi Wasser, Brittney Rettig-Hidalgo, Jake, Connor and Madison Rettig; and two great grandchildren: Myah Wingard and Elliana Hidalgo.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, in Girard on Friday from 4-7 p.m., and are invited to attend a mass of Christian burial on Saturday at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 2801 W. 6th Street at 11 a.m. with Reverend John Detisch, celebrant.
