Hilde (Fabian) Huttel

Hilde (Fabian) Huttel age 91, of Millcreek, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016 at UPMC Hamot, with her three sons by her side.

She was born in Bamberg, Germany on February 7, 1925 and was the daughter of the late Konrad and Kunigunda Bauer Fabian. She attended grammar school in Germany and trained as a bookkeeper. She emigrated to the United States in 1951 and in October of that year arrived in Erie. There she met and married her husband, Fred, who had also emigrated to the United States from Germany in 1952. In subsequent years she used her bookkeeping skills to assist Fred with his auto repair business in Millcreek.

Hilde’s greatest joy was making a loving home for her family; taking care of her husband, raising her three sons and being a grandmother. She was the ultimate homemaker and loved cooking for her family, gardening and feeding the birds.

She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church and DANK.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Frederick K. Huttel, Sr. and a sister Trude Kobylka.

She is survived by three sons, Fred Huttel, Jr. and his wife Beverly of Erie, Frank Huttel and his wife Nancy of York, PA and Carl Huttel and his wife Anne of Madrid, NY; her grandchildren, Sarah Chao and her husband Jerry, Jacob Huttel and his wife Carolyn, and Erin and Christopher Huttel. She is further survived by two great-grandchildren; Collin Huttel and Hudson Chao; a brother-in-law, Ulrich Huttel and his wife Sybille of Germany; several nieces and one nephew.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday at Asbury United Methodist Church (26th and Asbury Rd.) from 10 until the time of the service there at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bruce K. Davis, officiating.

Burial will be private in the Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.
