Herman K. Klauk age 100, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at his residence.
He was born in McKeesport, PA on January 29, 1917 a son of the late Herman P. and Clara I. Doering Klauk. Herman graduated from East High School in January 1935 and studied two years at Penn State prior to WWII. He married the late Helen Koenig Klauk in July 1941, then enlisted in the US Army in August 1941. Herman was initially assigned to a Chemical Warfare unit, then later transferred to US Army Air Corp Ordnance unit. After his discharge in 1945, he worked for over 40 years as a lab technician at Hammermill Paper Company. Over the years he enjoyed singing with the original Maennerchor Club Singers, the Danish Choristers, then again with the Maennerchor Choristers. He was an active volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank and the Emmaus Soup Kitchen and received numerous awards for his work in these organizations.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a son Mark R. Klauk and a sister, Dorothy Fargo.
He is survived by a sister, Margaret Weber of Diamondhead, MS; a son, Bill Klauk of Erie; a daughter, Marcia Richardson (David) of Erie; son David Klauk (Beth) of Edinboro; son Paul Klauk of Erie; 8 grandchildren, Ryan, Becky, Kimberly, Erin, Todd, Andrew, Ashley, and Avery; and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a special granddaughter, Amber Craig, and many other relatives and loved ones.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Thursday from 2:00 pm till 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm till 9:00 pm and are invited to attend a memorial service at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church 4701 Old French Road Erie, on Friday at 11:00 am with The Reverend Shawn Clerkin officiating.
