Herman L. Howland, 82, passed away peacefully at home with his daughter by his side on Monday, Sept.15, 2014, following a brief battle with lung cancer. He went to be with his loving and beautiful wife, Sherry, who left this earth way too soon just 10 months ago.
Born in Erie, Pa, on October 27, 1931, he is the son of Thelma Klein Haker and Herman L. Howland. He spent most of his years working in the plastics industry, a career which afforded him the opportunity to live in many places throughout the northeastern U.S. He was an extremely hard worker who gave just as much to his work as he did his family.
He was an avid bowler and golfer, hobbies he very much enjoyed doing with his son, John. He also took a great interest in working in the yard with his wife. Nothing was more important to him than providing for, and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sherry on November 3, 2013, and a son Gary who died in 1972 at the age of 19. He is survived by his daughter, Erika Howland and son John Howland (Karen) of Erie, as well as his grandchildren and great grandchildren. And the most loyal and best friend he could ever ask for, his grand dog Lucy, who never left his side for one minute for the past 10 months.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Hospice of Greater Metropolitan Erie County. And especially Herman's nurse Laurene who kept her promise to be there for him and help him to pass in peace.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 602 West 10th Street on Thursday from 4pm until the time of services at 7pm with Rabbi John Bush officiating.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Of Metropolitan Erie 202 E. 10th Street Erie, PA 16503.
