Henry Scholz

Henry R. “Louie” Scholz, Sr., age 83, of Girard, passed away on Sunday November 27, 2016 at UPMC Hamot surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in McKees Rocks, PA on May 1, 1933, a son of the late Charles F. Sr. and Nellie Mankowski Scholz.

Louie graduated from Stowe High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army. He worked as a maintenance mechanic for Continental Can.

He loved nature, bird watching, hiking in the woods, gardening and fishing and hunting. Louie will be fondly remembered for his “tinkering” and eating blueberry sundaes at Sara’s. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family. He will be missed by his dog, Rocky.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Joann Svistak Scholz; two brothers: George and Hud Scholz and sister, Caroline Scholz.

Louie is survived by his son, Henry R. “Bob” Scholz Jr., and his wife Susan of Millcreek; his grandchildren, Bob Scholz , and Samantha Scholz and her husband, Ian Zelgowski- for whom he loved like one of his own ; his sisters, Dorothy Schrantz and her husband, Frank, Claire Ferrell and her husband Walter and his brother, Richard Scholz. He is further survived by two sisters in laws, Cathy Coleman and her husband, Ernie and Carol Barnhart Fabean; as well as his dear friend Bob O’Donnell and his wife Grace, the Wiencek brothers and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, Girard on Wednesday from 3pm until the time of sharing at 6pm.
