Henry Levine

February 11, 1922 — January 26, 2016

Henry Samuel Levine, “Sam” to his family and friends, passed Tuesday, January 26th, peacefully at his home with his son by his side. He was 93.

He was born in Jeanette, Pennsylvania and later moved with his family to Erie. He graduated from Academy High School in 1940 and later enlisted in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. During the four years he was in the service he was a radio operator. He flew the Burma hump and radioed communications by Morse code. His unit flew the Nationalist Troops back to China at the end of the War for which his Unit received the Presidential Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Sam worked in electrical installation and sales for Warren Radio for over fifteen years and then Mace Electronics in the same capacity. Sam, with his wife Nathelee, went on to form and run Levco Communications. In 1993 Sam and his wife Nathelee retired.

In his later years, Sam was active in his synagogue, Congregation Brith Shalom, being Properties Chairman and an officer in the Men’s Club. Sam was known for his colorful humor and joviality.

Sam is survived by his only child, son, Barry F. Levine Esq., his daughter in law, Paula; three grandchildren Raymond, Ariel and Madeline; a sister, Ruth Levine and two brothers, Bernard Levine and Morris Levine. He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Nathelee Levine, as well as one sister, Helen Ringold and brother, Herman Levine.

Sam and his family are deeply grateful for the care and compassion he received from Regional Hospice.

Friends may call at Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, Sunday from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral service at 12:00 P.M. Following the service, burial will be at Congregation Brith Shalom Cemetery. The family and friends will gather at Regency at South Shore as again, is Jewish custom, following the service from 2:30 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Shiva will be at the Regency Monday and Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

The family requests no flowers be sent as is customary with Jewish burial. Memorial contributions may be made to Regional Home Health and Hospice, 2564 Village Common Drive, Erie, PA 16506.
