Helene Mitcho Yugovich

Helene J. Macosko Mitcho Yugovich, age 103, passed away on July 27, 2021 at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge Erie PA.  She formerly resided in Girard and Lake City PA.

She was born January 3, 1918 in Sheffield, PA, the daughter of the late John & Mary Kozenko Macosko.

Helen was a charter member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church and was the first president of its Altar Society.  She was also a long-time member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church where she volunteered many hours.  She belonged to the Rosary Society and the Bernadette Club.  During the 1960’s, she was active with the Red Cross Civil Defense Program.  She enjoyed homemaking, playing cards, baking for the neighbors, challenging puzzles, reading, and mastering the game of golf beginning at age 60.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph C. Mitcho, on August 1, 1974; her second husband, John T. Yugovich, on February 26, 1997; four brothers: John, Peter, Nicholas and Paul Macosko, and three sisters: Mary Kavcsak, Anne Rovnak, and Julianne Yesko, all of Erie.  She is survived by two sons: Joseph C. Mitcho (Rena) of Tulsa OK; Gregg Mitcho (Elizabeth) of Girard, and two daughters: Paula M. Dziminski (Joseph) of Pompano Beach, FL; Dorothy L. Navarra (Ernie) of North Port, FL.  Helene is further survived by seven grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Helene’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful and compassionate nurses, aides, and staff at Saint Mary’s Asbury Ridge, her loving home since the age of 90.

Private burial was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.  Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East, Girard, handled the arrangements.  Memorials may be made to Saint Mary’s at Asbury Ridge, 4855 West Ridge Road, Erie PA 16506 or to A.F. Dobler Hose & Ladder Co., 37 Walnut St, Girard PA 16417.
