Helen Benson Wagner, age 103, of Erie, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Monday September 14, 2015 at Fairview Manor. She was born in Buffalo, NY, on February 25, 1912, the daughter of the late Sophie and Julius Benson.
She was a graduate of Depew High School in Depew, NY and attended Hurst’s Private Business School in Buffalo, NY. She worked for Warner Bros. Film Exchange in Buffalo, NY for ten years prior to her marriage in 1939. After her husband’s passing in 1955, she went on to work as a Secretary for 22 years at Erie County NY BOCES until she retired in 1977. While in Erie the past 15 years, she was a former resident at Niagara Village and LECOM Senior Living Center.
Helen’s life revolved around family and church. The family wishes to thank Regional Hospice and Fairview Manor for all their compassion and care in the last few weeks.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; five brothers: Irving, Gerald, Eric, Howard and Harvey Benson; and one sister, Lillian Stoldt.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Giebfried and husband John, of Erie; her son, William Wagner and wife Darlene Dodd, of Tulsa, OK; She is further survived by 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held at the Cleveland Drive Presbyterian Church, Buffalo, NY on Saturday September 19, 2015 at 1:30pm.
