Helen L. Tyler age 97, of Millcreek, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023, at her residence.
She was born in Ramsaytown, PA on July 15, 1926, a daughter of the late Mervin W. and Goldie V. Schick Kennedy.
Helen attended school in a one room schoolhouse in Ramsaytown, PA, Brookville High School and graduated from Strong Vincent High School in Erie.
She was a Baker in the Millcreek School District for over 30 years.
Helen enjoyed square dancing for 30 plus years with the love of her life Roy, playing card games and especially enjoyed playing scrabble till the early morning with her best friend Jean. She was an excellent baker and was known for her sweet rolls, pies, and Carmel corn. At her former residence, Helen was known as the “Purple Lady” due to her love of the color purple.
She was a longtime member of the Delaware Avenue Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Tyler II and a sister, Irene Moore.
She is survived by two sons, Butch Tyler and his wife Barb and Roy Tyler III and his wife Ann; a daughter, Marylou Madewell; three grandchildren, Tonya Minns and her husband Allen, Nick Tyler and his fiancé Amanda and Goldie Young and her husband Scott; three great grandchildren, Cassie Minns, Tyler Minns and Dakota Madewell; and two great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to say thank you to UPMC Home Healthcare and Family Hospice for the excellent care and compassion they gave to Helen.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge 3801 W. 26th Street on Friday, September 22, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Burial to follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
