Helen Mitchell

Helen Jane Gehring Mitchell, age 85, of Erie, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Saint Mary's Asbury. She was born in Erie on December 7, 1928, a daughter of Anthony and Elsie Kreuger Gehring. Helen was a Registered Nurse at St. Vincent Health Center for many years and also the Presbyterian Lodge. She loved her profession – helping others and taking care of those in need. She was also a member of St. Peter Cathedral. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Gehring and her sister, Sonya Passamonte. She is survived by her husband, Jerome L. Mitchell; three daughters, Laura Mitchell Stamp (Marcus) of Charlottesville, Va.; Ruth Mitchell of Chicago, Ill.; Monica Mitchell DeBella (Roberto) of Washington, DC; son, Michael Mitchell (Karen) of Washington, DC; and her two sisters: Freida Cooney of Erie and Barbara Snyder of Erie. Helen is further survived by six grandchildren. Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home, 602 West 10th Street, on Wednesday, from 2 to 6 p.m. and are invited to attend a prayer service there on Thursday, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter's Cathedral, 230 W. 10th St., at 10 a.m. with Rev.
