Maureen Goodwin Phifer, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2016 at the Golden Living Center - Walnut Creek in Erie, Pa. Maureen was the daughter of Ana H. and Edgar A. Goodwin born on October 25, 1925 in Sandoval, Illinois.
Maureen started her professional career in Chicago, Illinois. After moving to Erie, she joined Hamot Hospital in the Accounting Department and worked there for over 26 years until her retirement. Maureen was a member of the ladies Auxillary of the Erie Yacht Club and the Maennerchor Club. She was also a member of the Hamot Medical Center Credit Union Board of Directors and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. During retirement, Maureen enjoyed volunteering at UPMC Hamot and lunching with her many friends. She and her son Chuck, also enjoyed shopping, day-trips and visiting craft fairs in surrounding cities.
Maureen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 31 years Charles Herbert Phifer; and her son Phillip Lee Phifer.
She is survived by son, Charles Herbert Phifer, Jr. of Erie, Pa; son Eugene Hayes Phifer and daughter-in-law Barbara of Springfield, Mo; brother Edgar D. Goodwin and sister-in-law Meredith (and extended family) of Belleville, Il. Also surviving is her only grand-daughter Kristin Lynn Dakon (Richard) of Kearney, Mo. and three great-grandchildren, Tarah, Richie and Riley Dakon, also of Kearney, Mo.
Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26 St. Erie, PA 16506.
To acknowledge our loss and celebrate her life, a private graveside service will be held at a later date in Chicago, Illinois.
