Helen Bellingham

Helen Sandstrom Bellingham, age 93, of Erie, died on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Pleasant Ridge Manor.  She was born on March 26, 1923, in Erie, daughter of the late Eric J. and Signe V. Anderson Sandstrom.  A lifelong resident of Erie, she graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1940, and worked as a secretary for General Electric Corp. for 22 years, retiring in 1978.  Helen was a member of Luther Memorial Church and had been a long-time member of the former Bethany Lutheran Church where she served on church council and the Evangelism Committee.  She was proud of her Swedish heritage and belonged to SVEA Lodge, No. 296, VASA Order of America and was a former member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, East Erie Turners Ladies Auxiliary and Lake View Country Club.
     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Raymond T. Bellingham, in 1998.
     Survivors include a son, Thomas Bellingham of Conneautville, Pa.; three daughters, Susan Agens, Nancy Serwinski and husband Thomas and Patricia Bellingham, all of Erie; two sisters, Signe E. Webb of Erie and Edith C. Christenson of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
     Friends may call at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street,  Tuesday from 3 until 7 p.m. and Wednesday 10 a.m. until the time of service there at 11 a.m.   The Rev. William Coleman, of Luther Memorial Church, will officiate.  Private burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Bethany Outreach Center, 254 East Tenth Street, Erie, PA 16503; or to Pleasant Ridge Manor Friends Forever, 8300 West Ridge Road, Girard, PA  16417.
     The family would like to thank the Unit A caregivers, nurses, Dr. Wick and support staff at Pleasant Ridge for the quality care, compassion and love they gave our mom while in their care.
