Helen R. (Jelinek) Bauer, age 92, of Erie passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family Saturday April 30, 2016. She was born April 17, 1924 in Warren, PA the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Ethel Brown Jelinek.
Helen was a 1941 graduate of Strong Vincent High School and was a member of St. George Catholic Church. Her greatest joy was being a homemaker for her 12 children. She loved traveling with her family,bowling,crocheting and belonged to two card clubs. She enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners and picnics at the Zoo.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard (Bud) Bauer; an infant daughter ; a son, Ronald Bauer; a daughter, Judith Miller ; a brother, Robert Jelinek; a sister, Louise Ruhlman and great- grandson Cooper Bess.
Helen is the mother of Lawrence (Mary Beth) Bauer of Steubenville, OH; Bernard Bauer (MaryJane) of Erie; Donald Bauer of Erie; Gary Bauer of Columbus, OH; Bonnie Williams of Erie; Mary Elaine Plesscher of Haslett, MI; Debra Caldwell; Patricia DiNicola (Steven); Susan Sexauer (Daniel); Lori Smith (Matthew) and Gordon Bauer (Kara) all of Erie. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 36 great- grandchildren and 1great-great-grandchild along with several nieces and nephews.
Helen’s children would like to Thank the Regional Cancer Center and Asera Care Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to their mother during her fight with cancer which she fought with courage and determination.
Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Wednesday from 7-9 PM and Thursday from 2-5 & 7-9 PM and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Friday at 10:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in St. George Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Regional Cancer Center, 2500 W.12th St., Erie, PA 16505 or to Asera Care Hospice, 1600 Peninsula Dr., Erie, PA 16505.
