Helen Altenberger

February 19, 1927 — October 5, 2014

Helen Jean Altenberger, age 87 of Edinboro Manor and formerly of Millcreek, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2014. She joins her beloved husband Jack, who died August 18, 2012.

Born February 19, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ida Sopp Fellows.

She was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School, Class of 1945.

She has been a Homemaker since 1980. Prior to that, she was employed at several local insurance agencies as a claims clerk.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jack Altenberger and two brothers, Charles and James Fellows.

She is survived by two daughters; Linda Lewis, of Erie and Carol Smith and husband Alan, of Girard. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Emily Iannacchione and her husband Peter of Cary, NC, Geoffrey Lewis and wife Erin of Fairview, Bryan Lewis of Erie and Ian Smith of Berkeley, CA, one great-granddaughter, Siobhan Lewis, one great-grandson, Griffin Lewis; niece, Janet Willison and nephews, Chuck and Ron Fellows.

The family would like to send our deepest appreciation to the wonderful staff, past and present, at Edinboro Manor for the loving care they gave our mother throughout the past five years. They are truly angels on earth. We would also like to express our appreciation to Heartland Hospice Care for their loving care of our mom in her final days.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Burial to follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
