Heidi Martin Utley was born in Erie on March 02, 1942 to Elsie and James Martin.
Her family (including her brother David and sister Wendy) lived in their home on Plum Street during the winters and in their cottage at Baer Farm Beach during the summers. She met and began dating the love of her life, Jack Utley, at Academy High School in 1957. After graduating from Academy in 1959, Heidi studied education at Mercyhurst College, graduating in 1963. Heidi and Jack married later that year, and had their son David in 1964. During a whirlwind of subsequent living locations --- Erie, Royal Oak, Columbus, Erie, Pittsburgh, Key West, Chapel Hill -- Heidi raised David and worked as an elementary school teacher, occupational therapy administrator, and bookkeeper. Heidi and Jack moved back home to Erie in 1975, ultimately settling at their amazing lake home in Fairview. Heidi loved collecting antiques and trinkets acquired at bargain prices at flea markets and garage sales - accompanied by Elsie and Wendy. She loved her home on the lake, tennis, golf, skiing, boating, searching for beach glass, the ocean and lake (with a raft please), sunsets, bonfires, Florida in the winters, and of course….the sun. She intensely loved and supported her family and her close network of friends…and truly adored her grandchildren.
She is deeply missed by her husband Jack, her son David Utley, her daughter-in-law Kathy Utley, her four grandchildren - Alek Utley, Haley Utley, MacKenzie Utley, and Emma Utley, countless close family members and life-long friends. Peace Mom.
