Hazel Cook

Hazel Marie Atkinson Cook, age 81 of Erie, passed away peacefully at home on January 4, 2017.

Born in Houston, MS, on May 20, 1935, a daughter of the late Middy Davidson and Ada Atkinson Bean.

Hazel was a graduating member of the Academy High School class of 1953. She worked as a Coil Winder for General Electric, where she retired from after 24 years, in 1997. Hazel was a former member of the Second Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking, fishing, reading and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Hazel loved to watch television and especially enjoyed Steve Harvey and Judge Judy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Zeddie Buchanan and brothers, John and Willie T. Norton.

Hazel is survived by her husband, Odell Cook, her daughter, Sharon Henderson and her son, James C. Goodwine. She is further survived by three grandchildren, Gregory Moyer (Jean) and Rasheda and Alichia Goodwine, five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends may call at the Second Baptist Church, 757 East 26th Street, on Monday, January 9th at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Emeritus Reverend Dr. Allen B. Green presiding. Burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
