Hazel Charlton

May 11, 1934 — April 23, 2015

Hazel Reed Charlton, age 80, formerly of Erie, and currently West Springfield where she resided with her daughter Edna and her family for the past five years, passed away at UPMC Hamot on Thursday, April 23, 2015. She was born in Brookville, Pa. on May 11, 1934, a daughter of the late Charlie Reed and Mary E. Haines Reed.

Hazel attended Emeryville School and came to Erie in her 30’s. She worked in the plastics industry at Quinnberry Plastics, Johnson Control, Hoover Universal and Carlisle Plastics. Hazel was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and also a member of the Senior Citizens Center. She loved flowers, gardening, and fishing and she lived for her grandbabies.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Charlton; two brothers, Robert and Elton Reed; and an infant sister and two infant brothers.

Hazel is survived by a daughter, Darlene Yarrington (William) of West Springfield, Edna Maio (Kirk) of West Springfield; a son, Clyde Charlton of Lake City; three grandchildren Jamie Maio, Tom Charlton and Kyle Maio; four brothers, Harry, John, Kenneth, and Charles Reed; four sisters, Ruth Trayer, Bea Duddley, Marie Ashforth, and Martha Bates; and two great grandchildren, Markus Maio and Drake Charlton. She is further survived by her faithful companion, Bella.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street, Erie, Pa. 16506 (at Powell Ave) on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until the time of service at 8:00 p.m. Interment will be in Lakelawn Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family, care of the Burton Funeral Home.
