Harvey Shapiro, age 86, of Millcreek, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018 at St. Vincent Health Center.
He was born in Pittsburgh, on July 29, 1931 son of the late Charles and Naomi Rubinoff Shapiro.
Harvey was a graduate of Fifth Avenue High School, Pittsburgh University, Clarion University and Edinboro University. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Phi.
He retired after 35 years as a teacher in the Warren County School District. Harvey was an official for football and basketball and coached basketball and track. He also coached Mike Shine who became a silver medalist in the 1976 Olympics.
He was a member of Temple Anshe Hesed.
Harvey was an avid Pittsburgh fan and was most proud of his only granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Shapiro; a daughter, Susan Comi and husband Dominick of Erie; a son, Barry Shapiro and his wife, Jennifer Merz of Erie; and a granddaughter, Deborah Comi of Buffalo, and a few nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, today, Monday July 2nd from 4-7 and Tuesday from 11 am until the time of the service there at noon.
Burial will be at the Temple Anshe Hesed Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Walnut Creek Golden Living and especially his table-mate Doug and the bingo gang.
