Harry Singer

April 26, 1920 — May 5, 2013

     Harry J. Singer, 93, of Erie, died Sun., May 5, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center.  He was born April 26, 1920 in Erie, son of the late John and Rose Elizabeth Zillman Singer.  A 1938 graduate of Academy High School, he earned a degree in accounting from Erie Commercial College.  Mr. Singer was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from 1942 through the time of his retirement from the reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1980.  He served during WWII and the Korean Conflict.  During his active duty he received the American Theater Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the American Defense Ribbon.  Mr. Singer was an accountant for Sims Co. for over 40 years retiring in 1985.  He also did taxes for H & R Block for many years.  He was a very active lifetime member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church and belonged to it's married couples group.  He also attended St. John's Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed bowling and was active with the Married Couples League at the Siebenbuerger Club and with the Lutheran Men's League.  He was a member of the Siebenbuerger, Zukor and Maennerchor Clubs.  Mr. Singer was a fun-loving guy enjoying time with his family and his dogs, church and church activities, and traveling. 
     Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Elsie J. Mantsch Singer; a daughter, Nancy J. Grau and husband Greg of Orchard Park, NY; grandson, Patrick Grau and wife Kara of Rockville, MD; granddaughter, Kelly Grau of Manhattan, NY; and a large extended family.
     Friends may call Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle St.  A service will be held there Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Richard K. Schultz of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church officiating.  Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the U.S. Air Force.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 940 E. 22nd St., Erie, PA 16503.
