Harry Bittner age 83, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at his residence after a long fought battle with prostate cancer.
He was born in Erie on October 25, 1937, a son of the late Frederick Frank and Freeda Ruhl Bittner.
Harry attended Tech High School. At the age of 18, he went on to work at the Hammermill Paper Company for 43 years. Harry would work as much overtime as offered to give his wife and children a good life. After retirement, he kept in touch with his Hammermill club buddies, meeting once a week for a big breakfast and reminiscing.
Harry was a devoted and loving family man, always putting his family first, their well-being was his first concern. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved all animals. Harry was a member of the Erie Racing Pigeon Club and was a Pigeon Fancier, winning many trophies over the years. He was an amazing cook, and no one ever left his kitchen hungry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Frederick Bittner; a sister, Ann Christenson; his loving parent-in-laws, Everett and Gertrude (Mowery) Discher; son-in-law, Jeffrey Brown; brother-in-law, Lou Hettrick; maternal grandfather, George Ruhl; and a niece, Linda Hettrick.
Harry leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Marilyn Ann Discher Bittner; three children, Donald E. Bittner (Janice), Carolyn Bittner Brown and Mark F. Bittner (Kate); a sister, Audrey Hettrick; grandchildren: Brittany Whelan (Sean), Katelin Hain (fiancé Nathan Law), Lindsey Hain (fiancé Corey Pletz), Mark Ross, Meagan Bittner, Jimmy Hong (Lisa), Alex Graves, Matthew Brannon, Andrew and Kristopher Corona, Nora Parrish, Antoinette Emanuel (John), Lia Petersen (Colin), and Michael Lombardo (Gillian); great grandchildren, Olivia and Ava Whelan, Alyssa, Emalee and Ricardo Lucero, Carter Hong, Mayson Dumke, Emmy, Jack and Grace Emanuel, Maddie, Charlie, Owen and Lincoln Petersen, and Giana, Macie and Amaya Lombardo; his beloved dog Lilly; his niece Louann (Rev. Bob Verno); and many more nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to give a special thanks to his dear neighbors Jason and Jennifer McGee and Julie Space and all the nurses at the AHN Cancer Center.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, 3801 W. 26th Street on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
