Harold “Hal” Edwin Harrington age 87, of Fairview, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016 following an extended illness.
The son of the late Oscar and Mildred Harrington, Hal was born on March 9, 1929 in Martin, Michigan. Raised on a farm in Hickory Corners, MI, he attended school at the W. K. Kellogg School. Hal graduated from the University of Michigan in 1951 and was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
He was fortunate to have a fine tenor voice and sang with the Men’s Glee Club while at the University of Michigan. Interlochen Music Camp was an important training experience for him for two summers. Lifelong church choir member.
After college, he was drafted into the United States Army and served for 2 years, 1 ½ years in Germany. Returning to the States, Hal worked in banking until he was age 30. He moved on to industrial sales with Aeroquip while living in Jackson, MI. In 1968 he joined Snap-tite, then located in Union City. This was the reason for the move to Erie in 1969. He ended his career there as President and left to start Harrington, Inc. in 1988.
Hal enjoyed playing golf at the Kahkwa club (as a member) and many other clubs around the U.S. and in Europe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, and two brothers.
He is survived by Norma Harrington, his wife of 61 years; four children, Tim (Karen), Tom (Kim), and David (Jeanne-Marie) Harrington and Paula Robertson (Tim);
11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren, one step great grandchild; two nieces, Pam and Lesley and a nephew, Carl.
Friends may call at the Wayside Presbyterian Church 1208 Asbury Road, Erie, PA 16505 on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506.
