Gregory Mays

April 14, 2022 — November 26, 2021

Gregory Alan Mays, age 59, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 26 (Black Friday — one of his favorite days) surrounded by his family.

Greg was born in Erie, PA on April 14, 1962. His parents, Harry Vincent “Vinnie” and Irene Mae (Lichtenwalter) Mays preceded him in death.

Greg graduated from Academy High school in 1980. He lived in Erie his whole life and had many meaningful friendships throughout his lifetime.

Anyone that knew Greg knew of his passion. His passion for his work, his relationships but most of all his family. He spent his life devoted not only to the family business, but also to any youth that could benefit from him, whether that was helping with his boys’ sports teams or the youth of St. John’s. He was most happy spending time with his wife of 32 years, his friends and family and watching the Cleveland Browns.

Greg is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jennifer (Luce) Mays; their two sons, of which he was most proud: Benjamin Vincent and Jacob James; his brother, Larry (Jean) Mays; and a sister, Heidi (John) Weindorf, in addition to many other family members -- cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, or the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute. May cancer research continue to save and extend the lives of the too many that are affected by this life-taking disease. We are most thankful to the many, many doctors and nurses who worked tirelessly to help Greg battle these past two years -- they are truly God’s Angels!

Friends and family are welcome to pay their respects to the family on Wednesday, December 1st at the Burton Quinn Scott Funeral Home on West Ridge Road between the hours of 2-4 & 6-9p.m. A funeral service will be held at Community United Church on West 38th Street on Thursday, December 2nd at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. A Celebration of Life event will be held at a later date.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, masks will be required.
