Gregory S. Canestro, age 70, of Erie, passed away Friday, August 12, 2022 at his residence after a long illness.
He was born in Pittsburgh on January 16, 1952, a son of the late Samuel Canestro and Rose Marie (Palumbo) Absalom.
Greg graduated from Central Catholic High School of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University.
He served in the United States Army in Germany and was one of the last draftees. Greg was the Owner of AIS Commercial Parts and Service from 1981-2007. He started the company with two employees and grew it into a multi-state, multi-branch company. Greg sold the company in 2007 and happily retired.
He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins fan and lived for hockey season.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step father, Jack Absalom.
Greg is survived by his beloved wife, Wendy Canestro; a brother, Ronald Canestro (Rose Marie) of Buffalo, NY; nephew, Ronald B. (Kayla) Canestro of Williamsville, NY and an aunt, Laverne Hoover of West Seneca, NY as well as various cousins and in laws. He will be missed by his beloved dog, Rowdy.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service at West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th St. on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 noon.
