Gregory Baran

Gregory A. Baran age 71, of Erie passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born in Erie on October 21, 1949 a son of the late Andrew and Audrey J. Bernritter Baran.

Greg was a graduate of Academy High School; Penn State University with a bachelor degree in Education; his Masters from Edinboro University, and had a Letter of Eligibility from St. Bonaventure.

He started his career in education with the Fairview School District in 1971 and remained there for 35 years until his retirement in 2006. Over these years, he proved his dedication to the students showed his true character in all he achieved. He served in many capacities from teaching to administrative. He served as Principal of the middle school many years, High School Principal and finished his career as Assistant Superintendent of the School District.

Greg was an avid sports fan, he loved the Steelers and Penn State.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marilyn Owsiejko Baran; a son Gregory E. Baran and his wife Kathryn of Maryland; a daughter Brianne M. Morey and her husband Jeff of Erie; two brothers: Gary W. Baran and his wife Kathy; George “Skip” Baran and his wife Gail; a sister Andrea J. Baran all of Erie; grandchildren, Clyde, Asher, Pearl, Olive, Logan, Lawson, Taylor and Maizy.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by a grandson Preston Gregory Sparks and three granddaughters, Ella, Presley and Bella Sparks.

The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at the Cleveland Clinic for all of the wonderful care that was given to Greg.

Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 W. 26^th Street (At Powell Ave) on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery. All CDC guidelines will be followed, social distancing, capacity limits and masks are required.

Memorials may be made to the Fairview Foundation or the Taussig Cancer Center.
