Gordon Starr

Gordon B. Starr passed away on Monday, October 9, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital at the age of 89. He had been a resident of Springhill Senior Community for the past two years.

Gordon was born on November 15, 1927 in Nashville, Michigan to the late Reverend Roland H. Starr and Edith McDonald Starr, the fourth of five children.

He grew up in southern Michigan, graduating from Jackson High School and spent a short time in the U.S. Navy following World War II. He later graduated from Michigan State University.

Gordon worked for the General Electric Company for 37 years, holding various financial positions in Schenectady, New York; Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Erie, Pennsylvania.

He served on the boards of the Sarah A. Reed Children’s Center, Greater Erie Area Habitat for Humanity, Millcreek School District, and was advisor to several other organizations. Gordon was a member of the Y-Men’s Club, Museum of Erie GE History, and GEER, a group of General Electric retirees.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Yowell Starr, son Joel and wife Kelly and grandchildren Joseph, Katherine, Megan and Lauren of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; daughter Kathleen Starr Nellius and husband Daniel and grandchildren Michael, Matthew and Caroline of Annapolis, Maryland; sisters Eunice Mahon, Lois Smith, and Marilyn Starr. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald.

Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 602 West 10^th Street, Erie, PA 16502 on Saturday from 11:00 am till the time of a memorial service there at 1:00 pm. Inurnment at a later date at the family’s convenience.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Gordon’s memory to a charity of choice.
