Gordon Stanley Ketchel age 89, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by family.
He was born in Detroit, MI on March 27, 1936, a son of the late Stanley and Helen Konkol Ketchel.
Gordon graduated from Edinboro State Teacher’s College and served in the United States Marine Corps. He started his career as a teacher and coach in the North East and Erie School Districts. He was a carpenter, electrician, home builder and home inspector, and then eased into retirement as property manager for Supportive Living Services.
Gordon enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially in the Chapman Dam area of the Allegheny National Forest. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid Detroit Lions and Tigers fan.
He was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Peace Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Norman (Edel) Ketchel.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Carol Byrd Ketchel; four children, Christopher Ketchel, Kelly Brown, Kerry Holton (Terry) and Kyle Ketchel (Kelly); 8 grandchildren, Chase Ketchel (Casey), Meghan Brown, Ryan Brown, Timothy Brown, Mason Holton, Madison Holton, Ethan Ketchel and Victoria Ketchel and two great-grandchildren, Kynsley and Mackayla. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc., West Ridge 3801 W., 26th Street on Monday, April 14th from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at 5:00 p.m. Private burial will be held in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
