Gloriajean Ramsey

Gloriajean Brown Ramsey, age 74, of Girard, passed away Monday September 18, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born in New Castle, PA on May 7, 1943, a daughter of the late Charles Clyde and Charlotte Virginia (Ashmore) Brown.

Gloria graduated from Lincoln high School in Ellwood City, PA., where she was Salutatorian.  She worked as a cleaning lady at Emerson Elementary School and at Doctors Osteopathic Hospital.  Gloria had also worked as an independent home health care aide. She worked hard to support herself and her family, sometimes holding three jobs at the same time.

At the age of 21, after the death of her parents, she raised her siblings Harry and Leona.  Gloria had many roles for her siblings and children: mother/father, friend, disciplinarian, referee and many more.  In 1966, she married Thomas Franklin Ramsey Sr. and had four children, after going their separate ways, she raised them on her own.  Gloria was a strength to all that knew her, she will be missed and remembered by all.

Her favorite job was singing and playing bass in the bands, The Country Associations and Southern Fried.  Her stage name was Shannon Tracey.  When she sang songs from Patsy Cline, there were always dancing, cheers and sometimes tears.  In her later days, she only played for Our Lord Jesus in churches.  She loved playing Hymnals and upbeat music for the Lord. Her love of music is passed on through her children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.

Gloria is survived by her children, Virginia L. Hill and her husband Michael, Thomas F. Ramsey and his wife, Michelle, William H. Ramsey, and Michael J. Ramsey and his wife, Cheryl; a brother, Harry Brown and sister, Leona Sidun.  She is further survived by 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews as well as many friends.

Private arrangements are entrusted to Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East Girard.
