Glenn King Shreckengost, 76, of North Creek Road, Girard Township, died unexpectedly on November 23, 2021.
Born on January 22, 1945, in Colwell, Armstrong County, PA, he was one of 15 children born to Roy W. and Iva H. (Crissman) Shreckengost. He attended Redbank Valley High School, where he met the love of his life, Joan K. (Nolf) Shreckengost. They were married for 57 wonderful years.
A selfless, gentle soul, Glenn enjoyed spending time with his family, telling stories about his childhood, playing card and board games, teaching his son, grandson, and son-in-law his handyman skills, fixing things for his family, and giving good advice. He loved helping his family with various projects and giving belly rubs to his grandpup, Clementine. He was an avid fan of studio wrestling. He enjoyed fishing and just about anything outdoors. He will be terribly missed.
Glenn worked for Erie Coke for more than 20 years as a millwright. A true hero, he once lifted a car to save the life of a stranger pinned underneath his car while attempting to change a tire in a store parking lot.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Brenda (Jeffrey) Coleman of Lake City; a son, Bryan K. (Elizabeth) Shreckengost of Muddycreek Township; a grandson, Bryston Hollis of Girard; brothers, James (Ruth) Shreckengost, and Dennis (Glenda) Shreckengost, both of Summerville; sisters Marge Grant of Niles, Ohio, Ruth George of Silver Creek, New York, and Dianna Shreckengost of Summerville; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Reed, Eugene, and Boyd Shreckengost; his sisters, Hazel DeSantis, Lucille McAninch, Elinora Wagner, Dorothy Hawk, Earlene Wolfgong, and Alberta Hopper.
Funeral arrangements will be private for immediate family only and are entrusted to Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street, Girard, PA. Private services will be conducted by Dr. Edward Huntley, pastor of Federated Church. Interment will be in the Girard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Glenn’s memory to the West County Paramedic Association, 6852 Meadville Road, Girard, PA 16417.
