Gilda Arduini Vitelli died on May 12, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Erie on June 17, 1922, the beloved daughter of the late Louis and Antoinette Arduini and was cherished by her children, her grandchildren, her great- grandchildren, a large extended family and many friends.
Gilda was a proud graduate of Hamot Hospital School of Nursing in June of 1945, one of many valiant cadet nurses who were the core and essential providers of care at home during World War II. Her nursing career spanned over 45 years serving the community of Erie as well as many family and friends.
She was an active participant in professional, community and volunteer activities. She was a woman of her own right who provided that special caring and love of life as a mother, sister, daughter, friend and all she touched.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony C. Vitelli; her granddaughter Catherine E. Martin, and her sister, Velia Arduini.
Gilda is survived by her six children: Anthony S. Vitelli (Maryann McCarthy Vitelli), Veronica Vitelli-Martin (Thomas Martin), Cynthia Sekula (Thomas Sekula), Joseph Vitelli (Kim Stokes), Lois Vitelli (Mark Beirnik), Rosemarie DiVecchio (Thomas DiVecchio); her sisters Elma Vitelli and Albina Palmisano and her brother, Angelo Arduini (Judy Arduini); her sisters- in- law Lydia Borowy and Rena Wierbinski and brother- in- law, Sam Vitelli. She is also survived by many loving grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, 728 West 9th Street on Friday, May 20, 2016 from 2-5 & 7-9 PM. Further visiting there Saturday from 9:00 AM until Prayer Services at 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in Mt. Calvary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery.
