Gertrude McKee Ondreako, age 84, of Lake City, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Pleasant Ridge Manor, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Erie, on July 11, 1931, a daughter of the late John and Lavina McKee.
Gertrude graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School and worked for Marx Toys for many years, and later for Bob Ferrando Ford World. In her later years, she tirelessly and selflessly helped her sisters with their care and needs. Gertrude adored and was adored by her family, and was highly esteemed by her friends and neighbors, and the nursing staff who helped care for her during her illness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Ondreako, an infant brother and sister, her sisters, Dorothy and Catherine McKee, half-sisters Mabel Zoldach, Florence Booth, Margaret Graves, Virginia Ashley, and Helen Brooks.
Gertrude is survived by a daughter, Georgianne, and her husband David Vecellio, a granddaughter, Anna Elaine Vecellio, all of VA; sisters Mary Alice Fernandez of Tampa FL, Lavina Fehr of Girard, Betty Jane Weis of WI, and Carolyn Dean of Erie, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to give special thanks to neighbors Lisa and Chris Johnson and nurse Amy Foltyn and her exceptional staff at Pleasant Ridge Manor.
Per her wishes, no calling hours or services will be observed. Private arrangements entrusted to Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, Girard.
