Gerard Cairns

Gerard Noel Cairns, age 84, of Erie, passed away on Tuesday March 14, 2023.  He was born in Glasgow, Scotland on December 24, 1938, a son of the late James and Annie Maguire Cairns. 

Gerard was a proud member of the Royal Air Force and he attended Mercyhurst College. He was employed with John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company for over 40 years where he was office supervisor of the year in 1995.  He enjoyed hunting with his father-in-law and fishing with friends and was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Philadelphia Flyers.  He traveled extensively with his wife to Rome, Paris, Lourdes, Fatima and more.

In addition to his parents, Gerard was predeceased by his wife Faylin (Letcher) Cairns in 2011, his sons: John, Patrick and James, his siblings: John, James, Norbert, Eugene and Anne Louise, and son-in-law Richard Linden.  He is survived by his daughter Kimberly Cairns of Erie, his grandson Second Lieutenant James McCormick of Japan, his sisters Marie Smith and Margaret Kane and many cherished nieces and nephews in the US and Great Britain. 

Friends are invited to call at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Road. on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 4 to 6 p.m. and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Julia Church, 638 Roslyn Avenue, on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 10.m.  Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
