Gerald G. “Jerry” Ellsworth age 84, of Erie, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at St. Mary’s Asbury Ridge.
He was born in Erie on October 10, 1940, son of the late Grant and Leona Colvin Ellsworth.
Jerry was a 1960 graduate of McDowell High School, where he excelled in football, gymnastics and track and field. He went on to serve in the United States Airforce from 1961 to 1965. He served as a cook during the Vietnam War with the Berlin Airlift and was stationed in Germany.
While serving in the US Airforce, Jerry worked as the Assistant Groundskeeper at the Miles City Golf Course in Montana. After moving back to Erie, he owned and operated Jerry Ellsworth Landscaping for 23 years as well as Ellsworth Catering. He then retired in 2013 from PHB after working there for over 40 years.
Jerry was a devoted family man with a great sense of humor. He was very kind and would always accept a handshake for a deal. He enjoyed horses, dancing with his family, camping and especially loved to cook, where he affectionately earned his nickname “Fat Boy”.
Jerry was an avid Cleveland Browns and Penn State fan. He was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, Ponies Unlimited, the Masonic Lodge, Presque Isle Jaycees, and the Fairview American Legion Post #742.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marianne Fischer and Wilma Sandoff.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 63 years, Sandra Mae Belknap Ellsworth; two children, Debra Wolfe (Mark) and Troy Ellsworth (Anna); four grandchildren, Cassandra Nagle, Autumn Ferrante (Vincent), Robert Grant Ellsworth (Jaqueline), and Laura Munoz (Israel); a sister, Betty Farrell; and three great grandchildren and one on the way! He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the staff at St. Mary’s Asbury for all the love and care they provided.
Friends may call at Lakewood United Methodist Church 3856 W. 10th Street, Erie, PA 16506 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Private burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery with full Military Honors.
In lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to Lakewood United Methodist Church.
