Gerald Cassell

Gerald R. Cassell age 80, of East Springfield, and formerly of Fairview, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at St. Vincent Health Center, following a brief illness.

He was born in Erie on August 23, 1937, a son of the late Richard V. and Dorothy Lewis Cassell.

Jerry graduated from Fairview High School in 1955 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force retiring CMSGT after 22 years. Following his retirement from the military, he worked for Gannon University in the small business development program for over 13 years.

He was a member of the Federated Church; Lake Erie Lodge #347 F.&A.M.  He loved having his draft horses for over 27 years, he was an avid sports fan to his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Bette Jane Kruse Cassell.

He is survived by his wife of eight years, Judy Porter Cassell; a son Richard G. Cassell and his wife Laureen of Greenville, PA; two daughters: Rhonda Stanko and her husband Mark of Fairview; and Renee Mitcho and her husband Michael of Bethel, CT; a brother David Cassell and his wife Toni of Girard; and two sisters, Geraldine Wheeler and her husband, Bud and Patricia Brown and her husband David both of Fairview; four grandchildren: Andy Cassell and his wife Marsha and Mike Cassell and his wife Hannah; Jake and Kenzie Stanko and Children through marriage: Janice Behringer and her husband Bob; Sherry Metzenbacher and her husband Eric; Allen Markham and his wife Karen; Laurie Rausch; and several other grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. Girard on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm with a masonic service at 7 pm and are invited to attend services there on Wednesday at 10am. with Rev. Ed Huntley  officiating.  

Burial at Fairview Cemetery with full Military Honors.
