Georgie Walker

Georgie Torrey Walker age 96, of Erie, has dropped the line December 4, 2021. Final departure was Saturday at 9:00 PM. The family was started by Georgie Hiram and Ella Russell Torrey on August 31, 1925 in Oil City. She graduated from Oil City High School, attended the University of Pittsburgh, and went back to school to become a nurse. Nursing was her passion, and she pursued a career at Hamot, and then at Millcreek Community Hospital.

Left behind waving at the dock were her children, Judy Walker Gaither, Heather Walker Dopierala and her husband William, Diane Walker- Brown, and her husband Harry. Dr. James L. Walker and his wife Judy of Hershey, PA was also present for the fond farewell. The send-off was complete by “Mom Georgie’s” 12 grandchildren: Scott and his wife Erin, Katie and her husband Jeremy, and Emily Dopierala and her husband Anthony, Jamie and Torrey Gaither, Bradley and his wife Michelle, Marc, Matt Hausmann and his wife Jennifer, and Annie Hausmann Delauer and her husband Jerimiah, Allison, Christopher and Madeline Walker. Great grandchildren: Graham, and Maura Dopierala, Jordan and Hunter Delauer, and Emma Walker.

Making her trip easier will be the knowledge that waiting for her at the end of the line will be her husband of 36 years, James Cameron Walker, who died in December of 1983. On the way she will amuse herself by sketching and painting her favorite subjects; blue herons, peregrine falcons, king fishers, and of course the late rag doll cat, Malcolm. Those left behind will always remember her cheery goodbye as she waved “Cheerie O!”

Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service Inc. West Ridge, 3801 West 26th Street at Powell Ave., on Sunday, December 12, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m.

Burial will take place in Laurel Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
