Georgia Canon

Georgia Smith Canon, age 92, died at Westlake Woods, Erie, PA on October 2, 2014. She was born in Decatur, MS to the late Evie Meador Smith and Edwin Velpo Smith on July 7, 1922.

Mrs. Canon graduated from Decatur High School, Decatur, Mississippi and East Central Junior College, Decatur, Mississippi. Prior to marriage she worked for the Corp of Civil Engineers, Greenwood, MS.

Mrs. Canon is survived by her son Frank McCormack Canon and wife Susan Thomas, daughter Georgia Anne Canon Mohr and husband Robert John “Bob” and grandsons Robert “Bobby” Montgomery Mohr, John Whitfield Mohr, Andrew Frank Canon, Thomas McCormack Canon. She is also survived by step-granddaughter Elizabeth

Hellinger and step-grandson Jonathan Flood.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband Frank Whitfield Canon, son Montgomery Whitfield “Monty” Canon and granddaughter Jessie McCormack Canon.

Mrs. Canon was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Georgia was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church and very committed to the Presbyterian Women. She enjoyed knitting & needlework, entertaining, playing golf and bridge. Georgia actively participated in Garden Club, Women’s Circle, Bridge Clubs and volunteering for the Stanly County Museum.

The family expresses deep appreciation to the staff at Westlake Woods and Great Lakes Hospice.

The family will receive friends Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 9:30-11:00 AM at the

First Presbyterian Church, Albemarle, NC followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.

Local arrangements are being handled by the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 602 West Tenth Street, Erie, PA 16502.
