Georgetta Daruda

Georgetta (Georgie) Marie Daruda, age 70, formerly of Waterford, PA, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at UPMC Hamot.

She was born in Erie on May 27, 1947, a daughter of the late Josephine (Militello) Yacovella and William P. Vangeli.

She was a graduate of Fort Le Boeuf High School, prior to attending Triangle Tech and E.I.T.  Over her career, Georgie worked for Elgin Electronics, Albourg Industries and was also a semi-truck driver.

Georgie was two-time past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.  Once an avid bowler, she received a bowling award from WIBC and loved to play casino slots and black jack.  She enjoyed her experiences driving semi-trucks east of the Rocky Mountains, and spending time with her dear friend Annette Confer and her family.

In addition to her parents, Georgie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Terry Dean Daruda; mother-in-law, Kathleen Daruda; father-in-law, Michael Daruda; four brothers; William Vangeli, Leo Davis, Joseph Davis and Thomas Davis along with a sister, Marie Farley; a beloved Aunt Marge Bannister; and step-father, John Yacovella.

She is survived by her son Michael D. Daruda and his long-time partner Beth and step grandchildren; Katelyn and Christian Wilber of Ballground, GA; close friend Annette Confer of Cambridge Springs; four sisters, Margaret Blanco of Conneaut, OH, Dorthea McDade of Centerville, PA, Ann Durlin of Millvage, PA, and Carol Vangeli of Erie; two brothers, George Davis of Sherrodsville, OH, and Michael Vangeli of Erie, and special cousin Don Weber.  Georgie is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 602 West 10^th Street Erie, PA 16502 on Friday at from 6:00PM until the time of services there at 8:00PM with Reverend Gale Thornton officiating. Inurnment will be in Waterford Cemetery at the family’s convenience.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Regional Cancer Center 2500 W. 12^th St. Erie, PA 16505.
