George Wiser

George V. Wiser, age 66, of Girard, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017 at UPMC Hamot from injuries sustained in a pedestrian vehicle accident.

He was born in Erie on December 22, 1950, a son of the late Harold V. and Norma Hartley Wiser.

George graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School in 1968. He was “semi-retired” working as a courier for Associated Clinical Laboratories.

George was a member of Holy Cross Church.  He volunteered at Pleasant Ridge Manor and at the Soup Kitchen.  George loved gardening and playing cards at the Legion.  

He was preceded in death by his wife of 21 years, Joanne Daub Wiser and daughter-in-law, Kristen Hetz.

George is survived by a sister, Christina Mohr and her husband Gary of Westcliffe, CO and a brother, Steve Wiser and his wife Denise of Girard; four sons, Scott Hetz and his wife Anne of Washington DC, Christopher Hetz and his wife Pam of Pittsburgh, Patrick Hetz and his wife Suzanne of Doylestown and Mark Hetz and his wife Jennifer of Pittsburgh. He is further survived by nieces and nephews, Seth, Josh, Megan and Whitney; as well as 10 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Grace, Charlie, Jake, Will, Max, Joey, Jack, Adam and Lia.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, Girard on Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday 3-7 p.m. and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 7100 W. Ridge Rd., Fairview.

Inurnment will be at Fairview Cemetery at a later date.
