George Watson

July 28, 1938 — January 27, 2013

George Watson Jr. age 74, of Erie, died on Sunday January 27, 2013. He was born in Vardaman, MS on July 28, 1938, the son of the late George and Beary McKinney Watson Sr.

George was educated in Vardaman and was an over the road truck driver for Hammermill and ANR Freight Systems who loved working on cars. After he retired, he went to work for Truckmen Services, LLC. He was also a St. James AME van driver, usher and member of the Gabriel Society.

George was a die hard New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Pruitt Watson and a sister Eugenia Thomas.

George is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Gambill Watson, in addition to three daughters, Judith Watson of Erie PA, Lisa Watson of Perrysburg, OH, and Monica Watson of Erie, PA, one grandson Mark E Chase of Cleveland, OH, one granddaughter Tarynn Garnon of Erie, Pa., two sisters Dorothy Prescott of Erie and Mytrice McKinney of Orlando, Fla. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law, god children and friends.

Friends may call at St. James AME Church, 236 E.11th Street, Erie, PA. 16503 on Friday Feb. 1 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm and from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and are invited to services there on Saturday Feb. 2 at 11:00 am with Rev. Kary Williams Jr. officiating. Burial at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery, Memorials may be made to the church.
