George R. Walter, age 71, of Cranesville, passed away Monday September 26, 2016 at his residence.
He was born in Erie, on March 11, 1945, a son of the late Harvey and Ruby Disen Walter.
George graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School in 1963. He was drafted to the U.S Army and served during the Vietnam War.
He worked for Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad, retiring in 2006 after 35 years. George loved bowling, hunting, spending time at camp and taking train rides when traveling. He attended the Girard Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl and sister, Nancy Vorse.
George is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, LaRae Jones Walter, and two daughters, Karyn Bellin and her husband Ryan of Phoenix, AZ and Michelle Smith of Erie; a brother, Ronald L. Walter and his wife Kathy of Cranesville. He is further survived by his granddaughter, Ruby Smith and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, Girard on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8pm and are invited to a memorial service on Saturday at 3pm at the Kingdom Hall, 7200 Meadville Rd, Girard.
