George Nutbrown, Jr.

April 20, 1958 — January 26, 2015

George W. Nutbrown Jr. (Chip) age 56, of Erie, died January 26, 2015 in Erie. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on April 20, 1958 a son of the late George W. and Shirley Ann Creen Nutbrown Sr. Chip was a graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School in Westfield, NY where he was involved in track and played baseball. He was also an Eagle Scout. He received a BS Degree in Marine Engineering from the US Merchant Marine Academy in 1980 and then acquired his Captain’s license. He spent many years working as a Merchant Marine Officer (First Mate) serving with many shipping companies all over the world. He is a Veteran of the US Navy, serving as a Lieutenant in The First Gulf War. He enjoyed swimming and hiking and was a longtime member of the Moose Club and American Legion Post 773.

In addition to his parents, Chip was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Duke Nutbrown in I998 and an infant sister. He is survived by his wife, Rebekah Runstedler Nutbrown of Erie, PA and four siblings; Paula Nutbrown Pickett (Timothy) of Jamestown, NY, Curtis Nutbrown (Silvia) of Springfield, VA, Clayton Nutbrown (Jaynne) of Ocala, FL and Sandra Nutbrown of Morganton, NC. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street(at Powell Ave,) Erie, Pa 16506 on Monday from 12:30 pm till the time of service there at 1:30 pm with Reverend William Coleman officiating. Burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Luther Memorial Church of Erie, 225 West 10th Street, Erie, Pa. 16501.
