George Hammill Sr.

George David Hammill, Sr., age 87, formerly of Erie, passed away Monday January 15, 2018 in Lakeland, Fla.

He was born in Erie on December 26, 1936, a son of the late George William and Elva Irene McClung Hammill.

George graduated from Strong Vincent High School.  He served in the United States Navy from 1949-1955. After a 42 year career with Hammermill Paper, he and his wife retired to Lakeland Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin daughters, Katherine Ann and Kathleen Jane Hammill; and his siblings: William W. Hammill, Dorothy Hammill Sullivan, Betty Hammill Tillman, Elva Hammill Green and Sue Hammill Rinke.

George is survived by his wife, Nora Hammill; his children, George D. Hammill, Jr., Joseph P. Hammill, Julie Hammill, and Ricky Hammill; step children: Karen Buckalew, Traci Lynn Peters, Kris Elaine Muthler, Martin Ray Gehrlein and Carrie Sue Gatto; and a brother, Neal Hammill.  He is further survived by many grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and his beloved dog, Basil.

Friends may call at St. Boniface Church, 9367 Wattsburg Rd, Erie, PA 16509 on Thursday from 3pm until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 4:30 pm with Fr. Mark Stockton, Celebrant.

Private burial at Fairview Cemetery.
