George Paul Foor, Sr., age 85, of Erie passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born March 30, 1936 in Altoona, PA the son of the late Roy and Wilma (Grove) Foor.
A lifelong resident of Erie, George graduated from East High School in 1954. In November of 1954 he enlisted in the US Marine Corp and proudly served his country. After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corp. he began working at Hammermill Paper Company. George spent a total of 38 years with Hammermill and retired as the Plant Machine Coordinator.
He was a skilled woodworker and handyman who could fix anything. You could often find George scribbling on a sheet of paper a quick fix to the latest crisis or laying awake at night pondering a solution to a problem at work.
In his retirement George started his own business. There are still many cherished pieces of his craftsmanship displayed in the homes of his family and the people he knew.
His greatest joy was following the activities of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His heart was gigantic when it came to his family.
He loved auto racing and his family knew where to find him the last week of February and over Memorial Day weekend, in his lazy boy, with a glass of Rebel Yell and watching the Daytona and Indy 500’s.
He followed his favorite sports teams with a passion, a great fan of the Detroit Lions and the Kansas Jayhawks. George was an outstanding athlete in football and wrestling and went on for years to coach area kids in Millcreek.
During his retirement you could find him having coffee and sharing stories about his family with his McDonalds buddies or simply getting his exercise walking his two best friends Toby and Lily. George loved his four legged companions.
But the love of his life was his wife Lillian, she was his perfect match. There was no love like the love he shared with her, genuine and inseparable.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Nelson Foor and his son George Paul Foor, Jr.
George is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lillian DiCarlo Foor; his children; Kathy Antoske and her husband Paul of Deland, FL, Steve Foor and his wife Nancy (Nowak) of Erie and Cynthia Johnson of Buffalo, NY.
He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Christie (Wuest) Foor of Webster, NY and 9 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren.
The family has requested there be no visitation at this time and a Celebration of Life service will be held in the future at a date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ANNA Shelter, 1555 E.10th St., Erie, PA 16511 or to Parkinson’s Partners of NW PA, PO Box 10547, Erie, PA 16514.
