Gary R. Wellington

Gary R. Wellington passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at UPMC Medical Center after a short illness.

Gary graduated from Saint Andrew Grade School in 1957 and Erie Technical High School in 1961. Most of his working life was at Eriez Magnetics where he retired after nearly forty years of service as a machinist.

He was the beloved husband of 55 years to Sandy (Ring) Wellington and father of Scott A. and Richard (Rick) E. Wellington, of Erie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy; parents, Richard E. and Agnes (Sheehan) Wellington; his aunt, Ellie Sheehan; as well as many aunts, uncles, first cousins.

In addition to his sons, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Judy (Ring) Johnson and her husband, Bobby, and their daughter, Lori Zakusilo, and husband, Fedor, and their children, Alex and Anna, of Erie. He is further survived by his brother, John (Jack) Wellington, of Erie and Campton, New Hampshire; niece, Annie; nephews, Sean and Tom; as well as grandnieces, Ellie, Ivy, Edy, and Raina; and grandnephews, Elijah, Simon, Liam and Lucas.

Gary was an avid hunter, boater, and a fan of the popular recordings of the late 1950s and 1960s. He delighted in recalling the names of the era’s hit recordings, the artists, their labels, background singers, and the highest place earned by each in the charts. You could not stump him on the details. Gary also enjoyed detailing and refitting cars from the same era. He thoroughly enjoyed keeping contact with lifelong friends, Dennis, Mike, Ron, Bill, Jim, Rich, Patti, Joan, Nancy and Mark. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors.

No visiting hours are scheduled and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
