Gary Krone

Gary B. Krone, age 68, of Fairview passed away at his home with his devoted wife and caregiver at his side on Sunday, May 15, 2016.

He was born on May 29, 1947 in Phillipsburg, PA., a son of the late Benn and Dorothy Brannon Krone.

Gary attended Academy High School and enlisted into the Army in 1964, serving in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of the National Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart and Rifle Marksman Badge. He was honorably discharged in 1967 due to combat injuries. His most recent employer was the Erie VAMC in the carpentry department.

He was a lifetime member of the MOPH and the DAV. Also a current member of American Legion, Orville H. Frank, Post 742 in Fairview where he was a Past Post Commander, Home Association President and was on the Board of Directors. Other affiliations: VFW Post 740, Edinboro/McKean and the Eagles Aerie 408, Conneaut, Ohio.

His interests included hunting and fishing. He owned and operated his own charter boat, “The Lucky Strike.” Gary always said he could have written a book about the trips he made with his hunting and fishing buddies. Another favorite of his was “Kamp Krone” in Spring Creek, PA where he enjoyed beverages around a roaring camp fire with his friends and looked forward to attending the tractor pulling contests at the Warren County Fair. He also loved his dogs Hootie and Hyde.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Michael; and a brother, Max.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Blare, whom he married on November 11, 1995 in Bonnie’s hometown of Scottdale (Westmorland County), PA. His daughter Michelle (Eric) Louis, grandson Eli and granddaughter Phoebe of Millcreek; step-son John Blare, Conneaut, Ohio; step daughter Jennifer Rodenbaugh (Mark), Indiana; and step granddaughter Cassandra Ehrismann of Florida. His further survived by his step children from a previous marriage: Greg Grassholtz, Brenda Husted and Patti Sciarrilli, all from the Erie area. Gary is further survived by his siblings: : Robert Krone, Oklahoma; Waneta Huey; Harborcreek; Carol Quinn, California; Linda Spinks, Nebraska; Karl Krone, Erie; and Debbie Cicero, Kansas; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and many friends.

Family and friends may call at Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East in Girard on Wednesday from 2-4pm and 6-8 pm at which time of the American Legion Post 742 will conduct a brief service and will be followed by the funeral service with Chaplain Fugate officiating.

Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery with full military honors on Thursday at 11 a.m.
