Gary R. Hill age 70, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Select Specialty Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Erie on January 31, 1948 a son of William D. Hill of Erie and the late Carol Doran Hill.
Gary graduated from Academy High School in 1965 and went on to serve in the United States Navy until 1969.
He worked for the City of Erie Streets Department for many years until his retirement.
Gary was a lifetime member of the Erie Maennerchor Club and was also a member of the Sunflower Club.
Gary was a fun loving man who was kind, generous and had many friends. He was an excellent softball coach where he coached in many tournaments and won many championships with his teams: Budweiser, Oakwood café, Opies Tavern and the Shaggy Dog, just to name a few.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his best buddy Jim Fried.
Gary is survived by his father Bill who was always there for him; a daughter whom he loved with all of his heart, Kelli Wygant (Adam); sweet girl granddaughter Avery; his loving companion, Bernadette Weber; a loving sister, Bev Jenks (Rich) and his friend and former wife, Patti Magers.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
